Lavender Sugar

All summer I've seen several posts on Twitter and Instagram about lavender coffee, and how delicious it is. As a fan of lavender, I've been dying to try it but there isn't a local coffee house that serves it.

This past weekend at the farmer's market there was a lavender booth. The family that owns the lavender farm, Thistledew Farms, were super nice and knowledgable. I ended up buying a small vial of culinary lavender and a big jar of bath salts.

She told me I could just put the lavender in my tea, coffee, and lemonade OR make lavender sugar. I wanted to share the recipe she gave me and a little step by step for anyone who has been wanting to try a little lavender in their drinks or food.

LAVENDER SUGAR RECIPE from Thistledew Farms

DSCN1196Materials needed:

2 cups of sugar

1 tbsp culinary lavender buds

measuring cup/spoon, blender (or food processor, spice grinder), air tight container

DSCN1198Measure out 1/4 cup of sugar and 1 tbsp of Lavender

DSCN1199Look how pretty the lavender buds are!

DSCN1201Put your 1/4 cup of sugar and lavender into your blender (i used a food processor), and blend for about a minute.

DSCN1205Add your lavender mixture to the rest of your sugar in an air tight container.

Allow the mixture to sit for 3 days to allow the lavender to infuse the sugar.

My kitchen smells amazing right now!

If you don't have a lavender farm near you, you can order products straight from the Thistledew Farms website! The small vial of lavender buds that I used is only $2 if you want to try and make your own lavender sugar.

You can learn more about why this family started Thistledew Farms here.

Have you tried lavender coffee? What did you think?

Let me know if you make this sugar, and what you think! I can't wait to try it in my coffee in a few days!

31/52

DSCN1043Amelia and I are hanging out at our local Starbucks, drinking coffee and using their wifi. I'm hoping ours will be working again by this weekend because I have a shop update planned for Saturday.

Amelia's cousins bought her this cute tutu (which you can barely see). She had a fun time crawling around in it and mostly trying to get it in her mouth. She has been teething and throwing off her sleep schedule (and mom's), but I bet we see some little teeth soon.

Can you believe it's already August?! What plans do you have for the rest of your summer? We have plans to visit the ranch, and get a visit from MeMe at the end of August.

DSCN0889 DSCN0888My friend Teresa took these when we had a girls day out for coffee a few weeks ago. I'm always the one taking the pictures, so it was nice to be in a few with her for once. Amelia's nose is red from allergies :( poor girl.

Sometimes Dreams Do Come True

You may laugh but I've always wanted to take a bubble bath in a fancy tub, while reading a book and drinking wine coffee. These days, I'm lucky if I get to wash my hair, let alone relax in a tub and read. Sometimes dreams do come true....

This is at my husband's parents ranch. I need to remember to take the time to do this more often.

What is a dream you have that others may consider silly?

20130504-122139.jpg

I wanted to share a few of my favorite blog posts this week. Happy Reading!

I've only had Chemex coffee once but it was fun and delicious.

May the Fourth Be With you goodies

Make a bandeau from old leggings!

I decided to try this foundation, and I think it's magical.

I love love Kara's art journaling classes! Here's her newest!

Hopefully Amelia will keep napping so I can get ready for a coffee date with my girlfriends, while Papacakes watches baby girl. We are trying a local coffee shop, but more on that later! Happy Saturday!

Something Inspiring Lost and Found Pets of Lubbock and the Dachshund Rescue. We still haven't found Duo but so many people have gone out looking and are keeping an eye out. So thanks, and I hope we find him soon.

Something Disturbing the amount of times I've dyed my hair recently. Hopefully soon I will find a color I like and stick to it.

Something New I'm currently reading a book about doing a cleanse, called Clean. I'm also reading Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling. Yes I'm that person who reads like 4 books at the same time.

Something I'm Listening To Paramore's new album. I haven't heard all of it yet, but I'm really liking what I've heard so far.

Something Inspiring or someone in this case, is my hair stylist. She is so positive and full of wisdom. I always appreciate her honesty. I am also excited that she gets to go see Bjork this summer!

Something New I'm thinking about doing a cleanse, so I'm doing some research. I liked this post from Gala.

Something Disturbing the amount of times I've been to Target this week. I keep forgetting something, and I tend to go and walk around if I get some alone time.

Something I'm listening to Little Einsteins. I can't get the theme song out of my head! I know this will just get worse as Amelia gets older.

Wintery Spring Day Moodboard

Wintery Morning in April

It's been springy here in Texas, until today. It's cold and rainy with a chance of tornadoes or snow....It's a good day to blog, listen to records, drink coffee, and stay comfy and warm. Amelia thinks it's a good day to nap.

Coffee Date

coffeeI meant for this post to go up on Saturday, but a cute baby distracted me from hitting publish :)

Something Inspiring: My friend Debra and her husband Paul. They make the most amazing costumes (and look amazing in them!), and they go to events and make people happy. I think it's pretty awesome. I love how they give back in such a fun way, and they do it as a couple! You can check out her blog Fantastically Super and their Facebook page for their non-profit, Project Hero.

Something New: I died my hair, again. LoL. It is super fun. I call it super hero red.

Something Disturbing: The number of pictures on my computer that I've taken of coffee over the years.

Something I'm Listening to: My husband left a Sufjan Stevens cd in my car. I can't remember which one though.

Coffee Date

IMG_6051Something inspiring: getting away from the city for a while. It was nice to be at the ranch and just enjoy the peace and quiet, family time, good food, and nature.

Something new: I got my first shellac manicure and I love it!

Something disturbing: I was excited to see new episodes of My Little Pony on Netflix. At least I like the show Amelia likes, right?

Something I'm listening to: the baby monitor. I've been working on getting Amelia to nap in her crib, so she will eventually sleep in there instead of the bassinet.

Something Inspiring: Massage chairs and pedicures.....amazing!

Something New: I cut all my hair off! I never had time to brush it (or wash it) and it was getting out of control.

Something Disturbing: Having to hold your baby's hand while they get shots. Worst feeling ever!

Something I'm listening to: Paramore's new single Now. The video is rad.

Stangos Coffee Shop

Picture 23 I spent the last week in San Angelo visiting my family. One of the things I love to do is go antiquing downtown. My mom and I happened upon a cute retro coffee shop. Stangos had all sorts of cool vintage pinball games and decor. There was also a Zoltar fortune teller, which I thought was the coolest thing ever! Picture 24 IMG_5725  IMG_5735 IMG_5730 IMG_5723 IMG_5728And don't forget some awesome coffee! I can't wait to go back and bring my husband.

Coffee Date

20130222-093705.jpg

Something inspiring: My daughter Amelia. She grows so much right before my eyes everyday, and it's amazing. You can see her little personality shining out her big eyes.

Something new: My sister took me out for a much needed pedicure. We met up with our cousin Candice and left all the kids at home. I am now obsessed with buying the color of polish on my tootsies.

Something disgusting: Baby poop. This week Amelia had some crazy poo and ruined a pair of cute pants. My husband is lucky he missed out on that personal disaster.

Something I'm listening to: The Amelie soundtrack. Amelia's projector that plays the ocean quit working, but she loves sleeping to Yann Yiersen.

This post is inspired by Treasures and Travels, check out their cute blog!

Happy 2013

enjoying a latte

I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year's!

I turned 30 on New Year's Eve, and my wonderful husband took me to the closest book store for a latte and a browse through the crafty books and manga. I'm an easy girl to please.

It was our first outing with Amelia (and using the stroller), which was an overall success. Being a new parent is definitely a learning experience and a daily challenge. :)

Right now I am working on my goals for the new year, and thinking on some major life decisions in between feedings and trying to catch some sleep.

So, here's to a new year of awesomeness and adventure!

Happy 2013!

Hipster Hobbits

The Hipster Hobbits say Happy Friday! I know I will be wishing for a venti today (even if it is decaf).
