Scrawny Girl Shop Update

After weeks of working on sketches and paintings, I've finally launched my new line of cards! I had so much fun with these. There are 2 Valentine's Day cards, but they could be used for other lovely special occasions. I also made a get well soon, happy birthday, and just a cute card for any occasion.

I am now offering a listing for Buy 3 Get 1 Free, where you get to pick the 4 cards you want. I also have 3 different colors of envelopes: white, pink, and kraft.

There are also shrinky dink brooches based off the same designs. I love how these turned out! My favorite is the Make Out Bandit!

My inspiration for this line came mostly from the Kyary video Candy Candy. All her videos are just so visually inspiring and the music just puts me in a good mood.

Check it out here:

Best Bits of 2013

I've been a tad under the weather these past few days, but I didn't want to miss out on a little review of some of the best bits of 2013!

1. I opened my online shop to sell my dolls and illustrations!

This is a big one for me because one of my resolutions for this year was to BE BRAVE.

I had a hard time choosing which platform to use, and ended up with an Etsy and a Storenvy, but I've had the best response from Storenvy. I also met an awesome group of artists and crafters, who have been super supportive and become great friends! If you're looking for a handmade community Storenvy is the place to be!

I am also excited to say that even though my little shop wasn't open for very long, I made 10 sales this year! Which is just amazing! I've had a great response to my artwork, and I've been cooking up all sorts of cute ideas for 2014!

2. I learned about zines from my rad friend Sonya!

I drew this for her as the cover of her next zine!

I've also bought so many zines, with plans to buy more. I have an idea for a zine of my own, I just need to make some time to draw everything....sounds like another goal for 2014!

3. I had my 1 year blogiversary giveaway.

I moved my blog from Wordpress to here, but before I did, I had a wonderful giveaway with great feedback. It was so much fun!

4. I finished my 52 week project!

I actually finished something! This is a real challenge for me, because I am all over the place. For instance, I still haven't finished my 30 Days of Lists from March....Amelia made it easy for me to do this challenge because I am constantly taking pictures of her. I'm trying to figure out what to do for 2014's challenge.

5. Blog re-design!

This is a more recent accomplishment, but I am very proud of my logo and blog redesign. I just got my business cards in the mail today with my new logo. I'm super excited about this brand that I am creating, and look forward to where I can take it in 2014!

I just want to thank everyone who reads my blog and who has supported me by purchasing items in my shop or an ad space. It really means the world to me! I hope you have an awesome New Year's!

The Unicorns Made Me Do It

I'm working on some rad new changes to the blog for 2014. You can already see some change with my blog layout and logo. I really wanted my little space here to be more of a reflection of me and the growth I've made as an artist. I'm also going to have lots of new arty things to look forward to in the new year!

I appreciate every single person who takes the time to read my blog, leave a comment, and chat with me on Twitter! Interacting and making new friends makes having a blog even more fun! I made a short blog reader survey to get some feedback from all you lovelies. It's not long and you can click here to fill it out.

Thanks again, and Happy Holidays! xo

Last Call in Time for Christmas

The cut off to get an item from the Scrawny Girl Shop before Christmas is Friday, December 13th.

I still have a few Christmas-y items, that are now 1/2 off, like these kawaii original watercolor paintings.

I also have a couple of ornaments left too!

And just for being awesome, use the code MERRY to get 20% off your whole order!

Happy Christmas!

Scrawny Girl Shop Update

I've been super busy working on new products, sketching out new ideas, and just enjoying being creative. I am also in a super festive mood, even though I have not busted out the holiday decorations yet!

I added a few holiday items to the shop. Each item is handmade and super cute!

You can grab 3 original watercolored illustrations that all my Christmas items are based on, in my shop. They are all of girls wearing glasses, getting into the holiday spirit!

Here is an example of one of the cards. I cut each card, illustrated, then colored with watercolor pencils. I love how fancy the inside of the envelopes are!

Today I experimented with shrinky dinks, and made an ornament using these fun illustrations. I plan to make a few more to add to the shop later this week.

I've been working on a few more fun items including a few screenprinted totes and tees with my Scrawny Girl logo. I'm hoping to get those ready before the big Cyber Monday Sale!

I'm also working a few Harry Potter and Bee & Puppycat sketches. Not sure yet if they will turn into paintings.

Is there something you would like to see more of in the shop? Something I could try and illustrate? Let me know!

Ch-ch-changes...

I'm making some changes around here, so sorry for the confusion. I've decided to move my blog back to blogger after continuous frustration with Wordpress. All of my content did not import over, but if you would like to read most of the past years content you can click HERE.

A few more changes:

I am now taking sponsors, so please check out my advertise page.

I am also phasing out my Etsy store. When my listings are expired I will no longer be selling there, but at Storenvy. You can use the code GoodBye for 40% off in my Etsy shop!

I am excited about these changes and the opportunities they will bring! Thank you for all your support!

Scrawny Girl Shop Update

I've been working hard on a few new patterns I hope to share soon. In between thinking up new ideas, I've been trying to crank out a few chibi dolls.

If you missed out on the giveaway at My Life as A Teacup, you're in luck because I have another Teacup Doll that I just listed today! I only have a small amount of this fabric left, so this cutie is limited edition.

teacup2bookteacup2fabricThis fabric is actually from a Chelsea & Violet shirt I bought myself for my birthday a few years ago. It had a weird cut to it, so I never wore it, but it was too cute to get rid of. I am glad I am able to reuse it, and hopefully someone else will enjoy the pattern as much as I did.

Am I the only one who buys random things because they are cute?

The other doll I listed is my very first Halloween Doll! Halloween and Fall are my favorite time of the year! I found some really cute fabric, so prepare yourself for lots of spooky cuteness in the next few weeks.

booAfter talking with my business adviser (that's my sister lol), I've decided to lower the prices in my shop. I think I was looking at too many other doll makers and what they were charging, and even though I was charging less it still seemed like too much to me. I want people to be able to afford my dolls and enjoy them! I want the doll to make your face light up like it does my daughter's each time I show her what I'm working on. With that being said, my Chibi dolls are now $8, and made with lots of love!

I've also added my first illustration for sale in the shop, at the insistence of my business adviser. ;)

PmonokoesketchYou can find out more about my inspiration for the Princess Mononoke Illustration here, or purchase your very own copy here for only $5.

DSCN1115I just listed 4 of my Chibi Dolls for sale in my Etsy store. I am working on a few more that I hope to list this weekend, so stay tuned for an update. :)

My Chibi Dolls were inspired by my original Scrawny Girl dolls, The Powerpuff Girls, and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, who inspired the BIG bows! If you don't know who Kyary is, check out this fun video:

I am currently working on lots of fun patterns and thinking up Christmas goodies! In the works is a boy doll and a mermaid.

Are there any dolls you would like to see made? I'm hoping to make some time to work on my Power Ranger pattern. :)

Find Your Voice: Week 1

I am really enjoying this project. I took me a while to get started, but it all started falling into place late last night. :)

Here is the cover of my SmashBook that I am using. There is a nifty pocket in the back to put my worksheets.

Here are a few fun supplies I picked up at Target this morning that I can't wait to use!

20130626-124815.jpg

It took me a while to fill out the worksheets, and for a few minutes I felt kinda stressed, but I went and watched some My Little Pony and got some perspective. I'm not deep or philosophical. I'm pretty laid back and I like cute things. So my worksheet is a true reflection of me (also with the lack of sentences, just words and phrases, that's how I think). I also had to start with the last question and work my way to the first...

New Doll Design: Kawaii Ears

20130623-163610.jpg

20130623-163621.jpg

I've been coming up with new doll designs, and I obviously have a thing for animal ears. I've been working on more embroidered faces, and in the future plan to add cute sayings or some song lyrics to the bodies of the dolls. I had 'Lost At Sea' by Eisley stuck in my head while thinking up this doll. Hopefully, if my design works out, I will have a new doll for sale in my shop soon.

Working on Dolls

My husband snuck in and started taking pictures when I was working on a new pattern a few weeks ago (clearly my hair is still dark). I'm not one of those people with a fancy studio, stages my life to look perfect, or even puts on makeup everyday. Seriously, I live in the real world, who has time for that?! So here's a peek at messy me and my 'studio'...ENJOY!

Scrawny Girl Etsy Shop Open

Picture 1

I tried a few different selling platforms and decided to stick with Etsy. I felt like this was the best decision for my business for now. I have 7 handmade dolls up for sale, with 3 of them on sale. The sale dolls are patterns I designed, but didn't love. I'm super excited to have found a focus, and I have really enjoyed designing and sewing these dolls. I can only foresee lots of fun experimenting with my designs, and improving my sewing skills.

Please check out my shop and let me know what you think or if there is something you'd like to see! Thanks!

Happy Vinyl Day

20130214-202326.jpg

Happy Valentines Day!

Right now my husband is playing a show in town with Lucero. So I am making chocolate mustaches and hearts, listening to vinyl, and dyeing my hair. Amelia is sleeping in her swing like a little angel.

My husband and I have a Valentines Day tradition where we buy each other vinyl and usually eat Asian food. So it's been a great day!

20130214-202654.jpg

I've also been hard at work on my dolls and a cute (and quick) business card idea. Here's a sneak peek at some unfinished dolls.

I hope everyone had a wonderful day and stay tuned for the official opening of my shop soon!
